What is your primary business/service offered?

Our firm offers a multitude of legal services and extensive knowledge including but not limited to personal injury, real estate, wills, trusts, estates, divorce, custody, business formations, and criminal defense. We can handle just about any legal need. Please visit our website for a complete list of practice areas.

How long have you been in business?

Our firm was founded in 1899 making us the oldest continually operating law firm in Floyd County and we are celebrating our 125th year in business.

What inspired you to start this business or what inspired the founders to begin this business?

The firm was founded on the concept of having one firm that could offer a full slate of legal services to the residents of Rome. 125 years later and MSP is proud that we still offer a wide range of services to our clients, including litigation in all state and federal courts, as well as in the areas of personal injury, business and commercial law, estates, wills and trusts, real estate and property, government law, workers’ compensation, employment law and family law matters.

How does your business give back and support the Rome-Floyd community?

Firm members seek out opportunities to use our strengths to serve and lead on numerous charitable, religious and service organizations in our community. Additionally, members of our firm dedicate a significant number of hours, every year, to pro bono or reduced fee services to members of our community who need legal counsel but cannot afford it.

Why is it important to you and your business to be a chamber member?

Our firm is one of the original founding members of the Chamber. Supporting the Chamber’s mission of fostering business and investment in Rome and Floyd County is a no-brainer. We appreciate the opportunities the Chamber provides to connect with other community members and build crucial relationships for the continued growth of both our firm and other Chamber members.

What makes your business stand out amongst the rest?

It is incredibly rare for a law firm to stay intact for 125 years. The continuity of vision and purpose required to keep a law firm together for that many years sets MSP apart from other firms. This continuity has led to a significant amount of repeat business, assisting multiple generations of families and representing many of our business clients for decades. Our customer base grows primarily through referral and word of mouth, which is the greatest complement our clients could give us.

We all know owning/running a business can be hard.

What is a recent highlight that shows the hard work is worth it?

When people come to a law firm, it is generally because they have a problem or an issue that is causing stress in their life and they cannot resolve it on their own. Sometimes it is a good stress, such as the purchase or sale of a home. Sometimes it is bad stress, such as marital issues or a business dispute. Regardless of the nature of the stress, watching our clients walk out of our office with lighter shoulders and a look of relief that we are their ally and advocate really makes it all “worth it”!

What's next for your business?

Throughout our history we have been thoughtful about adapting our practices to meet the ever-evolving legal needs of our friends and neighbors of Rome, Floyd County, and beyond. We see this continuing well into the future. The firm recently added a new partner and will soon be adding two new associate attorneys. We look forward to continued growth in our community.
