Director of Rome First School

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Rome First School (RFS) director supports the mission of Rome First United Methodist Church by

creating a safe and nurturing environment in which children ages 1 year through kindergarten can

learn age-appropriate academics and foundational Christian beliefs.

The director of RFS works about 25 hours a week, generally from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Exhibit a mature faith in Jesus Christ. A mature disciple is one who fulfills the membership vows of

The United Methodist Church (specifically the vows pertaining to prayers, presence, service and

witness) and exhibits the fruits of the spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23.

• Work with staff and the RFS Board to offer a thriving half-day program Monday-Thursday from

August-May and accompanying early drop-off program.

• Work with clergy, school staff, and RFS families to create and sustain support for and relationships

with Rome First School.

• Oversee daily operations of the preschool program.

• Ensure compliance with all state licensing and safety regulations.

• Recruit, train, equip, and encourage school staff and volunteers.

• Manage enrollment, budgeting and program planning.

• Oversee and process staff payroll, including tracking hours and ensuring accuracy.

• Seek out innovative opportunities that help children learn appropriate academic lessons as well as

foundational Christian values like love, compassion and service.

• Ensure that appropriate worship experiences and worship education are part of the RFS curriculum.

• Ensure that church policies are followed in all areas, including Safe Sanctuaries, communications,

finances, budgeting, calendar and space use reservations.

• Monitor student progress and support individual learning needs.

• Participate in appropriate continuing education activities for professional growth.

• Maintain records and communicate regularly with Rome First UMC leadership.

• Manage other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong knowledge of child development and best practices.

• Have classroom teaching experience in a preschool or early childhood setting.

• Be a team player, understanding the importance of working together and developing trust within

and between constituencies.

• Demonstrate success in leading others.

• Be passionate about creating a safe and nurturing environment for young children and their families.

• Possess strong administrative, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

• Have excellent verbal and written communicate skills.

• A bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent experience is preferred.
