Outreach & Prevention Education Coordinator/ Forensic Interviewer

Job Title: OUTREACH & PREVENTION EDUCATION COORDINATOR/ FORENSIC INTERVIEWER

Reports to: Executive Director

Function: The outreach and prevention education coordinator is responsible for coordinating and providing education and training to schools, community organizations and other groups in the areas of child abuse prevention and awareness. Oversee marketing and public relations and attend networking and outreach events in the communities of Floyd County and Polk County. Conduct forensic interviews of victims of child abuse.


Required Qualifications:   

Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, public health, or related field.

Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

Outgoing, results-oriented work style with high attention to detail.

No criminal convictions of child abuse or violent crimes.

Desired Qualifications:       

Prior work experience in social services and/or outreach and prevention education.

Working knowledge of child advocacy centers and services provided.


Upon hire, the candidate is expected to complete a 40-hour nationally recognized forensic interview training course as well as a nationally recognized course in victim advocacy or provide proof of prior training that is still active.



Position Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, coordinate, and facilitate child abuse prevention and awareness presentations for school groups, civic organizations, caregivers, and other groups.
  2. Travel and present training and education to various groups.
  3. Attend networking and outreach events in the communities of Floyd County and Polk County.
  4. In collaboration with the Executive Director, oversee public relations, media, and marketing including all social media.  
  5. Utilize social media to promote the mission of Harbor House as well as all fundraising efforts.
  6. Create promotional materials for the organization, outreach events, and fundraising events.
  7. Work with the board and executive director to ensure the profitability of fundraising events by helping secure sponsorships, in-kind contributions, and support.
  8. Conduct videotaped forensic interviews of children alleged to be victims of abuse, in coordination with investigative agencies and the specific County’s Child Abuse Protocol.
  9. Use non-leading, research-based practices contained in a nationally recognized model for forensic interviews, collaborating with MDT partners to ensure interviews are thorough, developmentally appropriate, legally sound, and neutral.
  10. Participate in formalized, ongoing forensic interview peer review in accordance with The Children’s Advocacy Centers of Georgia (CACGA) standards, The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) Standards, The National Children’s Alliance (NCA) Standards, The Floyd County Child Abuse Protocol, and the Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit Child Abuse Protocol.
  11. Maintain ongoing training relevant to advocacy, forensic interviewing, and child abuse in accordance with The Children’s Advocacy Centers of Georgia (CACGA) standards, The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) Standards, The National Children’s Alliance (NCA) Standards, The Floyd County Child Abuse Protocol, and the Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit Child Abuse Protocol.  
  12. Attend Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings (Floyd County and Polk County) and participate in discussions regarding the implementation of intervention services for victims and their families.
  13. Assist in preparing and distributing agendas for the Multidisciplinary Team meetings and summarize and record the decisions and action plans of the Multidisciplinary Team.
  14. Enter client data, update and maintain the case tracking system and provide statistical data as requested.
  15. Answer phone calls and messages received by the Center.
  16. On-call on the 24hr response phone for one week every four weeks.
  17. Act as a back-up advocate as needed.
  18. Participate in agency fundraising events, campaigns, and efforts.
  19. Deliver all services in a culturally competent manner, tailoring each client’s experience to their cultural needs, preferences, and practices.
  20. Participate as a member of the Harbor House team by demonstrating a willingness to share responsibilities as needed, providing flexibility in personal scheduling, and committing to and participating in the mission of the organization.
  21. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.
