Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Mount Berry Mall. 2770 Martha Berry Hwy NE. 

Rome, GA 30165 

Hours: 20-25 hrs. per week

Reports to: Board President


Position Summary: 

The Operations Manager plays a key leadership role in creating a safe place for children and families to learn, play, and explore our community. This position supports daily operations by managing employees, maintaining Children’s Museum of Rome (CMOR) policies and procedures, and performing critical administrative tasks. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, has excellent communication skills, and demonstrates proven leadership skills. Working closely with and reporting directly to the Board President; must be able to work independently, make sound decisions, and lead a small, dynamic team in alignment with CMOR’s mission and values.

Minimum Qualifications:  

● High school diploma or GED required 

● Must be at least 18 years of age

● 2+ years of supervisory, team lead, or operations experience

● Experience working in a guest-facing, customer service, education, childcare, nonprofit, museum, recreation, retail, hospitality, or community-based environment 

● Comfortable working with children, families, school groups, and the general public 

● Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends, evenings, field trips, birthday parties, and special events

● Experience with cash handling, credit card processing, and basic point-of-sale or online payment systems

● Basic computer skills, including email, scheduling tools, online platforms, spreadsheets, and digital recordkeeping 

● Must be able to pass criminal background check 


Preferred Qualifications 

● Prior experience working with children, youth, or families

● Prior experience supervising part-time staff, volunteers, interns, or seasonal employees 

● Experience helping open a new program, facility, small business, nonprofit, or community space 

● Experience creating or improving schedules, procedures, checklists, training materials, or daily operating systems 

● Familiarity with safety procedures, incident reporting, emergency response, or facility operations 


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

● Supervise and mentor staff 

● Participate in regularly scheduled check-ins with direct reports. Provide support as needed

● Assist Executive Director/Board President in the recruiting, selection, hiring/termination, and training of staff 

● Ensure appropriate staffing coverage during museum hours, field trips, birthday parties, and special events 

● Assist in the development, updating, and enforcing policies for CMOR operations, programming, events, safety, and maintenance   

● Oversee office and facility supplies, including shipments, procurement and deliveries 

● Collect, organize, and report CMOR sales and attendance metrics 

● Provide leadership in the management of risk, security, and compliance with CMOR policies and procedures

● Respond appropriately to accidents, incidents, emergencies, and unsafe conditions in accordance with CMOR policy and procedures 

● Oversee IT & security systems and coordinate with vendors to ensure seamless operations 

● Assist the Program Coordinator with exhibit upkeep, updates, and rotations 

● Manage small exhibit & facility repairs under supervision or direct guidance 

● Perform front-desk duties, greet visitors and members, provide introductions, and check in guests via the online platform 

● Process admissions, collect payments, and maintain accurate records

● Assist with the implementation & promotion of membership programs 

● Monitor and enhance the guest experience for all visitors, including members and groups 

● Engage visitors with exhibits and interactive experiences 

● Support the Program Coordinator in planning, developing, and executing educational content, curriculum, museum activities, and special events 

● Coordinate the development and distribution of museum operational updates (e.g., hours, closures) 

● Ensure accurate and up-to-date signage, wayfinding materials, and museum policies are communicated to guests 

● Perform other duties as assigned 


Pre-Opening & Post-Opening Operations 

● The Operations Manager will play a critical role during both the pre-opening phase (prior to Grand Opening) and ongoing operations after opening.  

● This includes helping establish procedures, staffing models, schedules, and systems before opening, and refining them once the museum is operational.   

● The ideal candidate is comfortable building structure where needed, identifying operational gaps, and continuously improving systems as the museum grows. 


Physical & Work Environment Requirements 

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position: 

● Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the CMOR for extended periods during scheduled shifts 

● Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds 

● Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as cleaning, resetting exhibits, and stocking materials 

● Ability to supervise effectively in a high-traffic, interactive environment with children, families, school groups, and the general public 

● Ability to remain alert to guest safety, identify potential hazards, and respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, or unsafe conditions

Compensation and Benefits 

 Pay range: $18-25 per hour
