Position: Toddler Assistant Teacher/Guide (Ages 18-months-3 years)

Montessori School of Rome is seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and dependable Toddler Assistant Guide to support a thriving classroom community and help students develop independence, curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

What You'll Do

• Support the Lead Guide in implementing Montessori lessons and maintaining a prepared learning environment.
• Create and maintain a beautiful, orderly, and developmentally appropriate prepared environment that supports independence and exploration.
• Build warm, respectful, and responsive relationships with each child, meeting them with patience, consistency, and genuine care.
• Support children's growing independence through practical life activities, self-care, movement, language, and everyday classroom routines.
• Observe each child's development and respond thoughtfully to their individual needs, interests, and stage of development.
• Model and support respectful behavior, grace and courtesy, and positive social interactions within the classroom community.
• Guide children through daily routines such as arrival, work cycle, meals, toileting/diapering, handwashing, dressing, transitions, rest, and outdoor play.
• Present Montessori activities and lessons appropriate for the toddler age group while allowing children the time and freedom to work independently.
• Encourage children to make choices, solve problems, care for their environment, and develop confidence in their abilities.
• Support children's emerging language, gross- and fine-motor skills, concentration, coordination, and social-emotional development.
• Maintain a clean, safe, calm, and engaging classroom environment, including preparing and caring for Montessori materials and classroom spaces.
• Communicate closely and professionally with fellow teachers, administrators, and families about children's experiences and development.
• Assist with classroom preparation, observations, record keeping, and other daily operations.
• Supervise and engage with children during morning work cycle, transitions, outdoor play, snacks and meals, rest periods, and other school activities as needed
• Attend staff meetings, parent meetings, and professional development opportunities as requested.
• Ensure compliance with school policies and procedures.

• Strong observation, communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
• The ability to create a peaceful, respectful, and engaging environment where children feel safe, valued, and confident.
• A willingness to follow the child's development and support learning through observation rather than unnecessary intervention.
• Flexibility, initiative, reliability, and a willingness to learn and grow as part of a collaborative team.
• A genuine interest in early childhood development and the unique needs of toddlers.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of working with toddlers, including frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting on the floor, lifting, and actively engaging with children throughout the day.
• Previous Montessori or early childhood experience is valued, but a willingness to learn and a strong commitment to the Montessori approach are equally important.
