WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?SUHNER USA, Inc. is seeking to fill the role of Mechanical Engineer. Our ME will report to the Engineering Manager is responsible for developing well-engineered mechanical designs, modification to existing production equipment, work cells and production lines, test and special process systems. The ME uses SolidWorks to produce layouts, assemble level and detail drawings, bills of materials and specifications. In this leadership role, the standard for teamwork, communication, design consistency, accuracy, efficiency, and quality documentation will be set for the project team. The ME will embody our company culture with integrity and professional competence. Projects generally vary from one to the next, therefore our engineers must thrive on variety and enjoy taking on new challenges. RESPONSIBILITIES
Design
- Design of flexible shafts, the associated components, and manufacturing equipment
- Knowledge of PPAP, PFD, PFMEA, and control plan creation and upkeep.
- Troubleshoot new and existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
- Provides detailed technical guidance and training to machine operators, Mechanics, and Mechanical Technicians.
- Develops and documents standard training practices
- Creates and maintains mechanical drawings for new and current models.
Process- Support technicians with product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of modern processing technology.
- Conducts performance analysis to reduce processing cost through creative engineering and proactive procedures.
- Determine root causes to failure and recommend changes in designs and processing methods.
Project Management - Supports and develops a strong team that is cross functional across all departments.
- Generates, maintains and adheres to project expense and capital budgets.
- Ensure Engineering work orders and costing assigned to you are processed on time (KPIs).
- Interact with production personnel on possible new or existing production and/or processes.
- Ability to manage Engineering projects and ensure project objectives are met.
- Manage the launch of new or significantly changed products. Working with Production for trials and engineering samples with departments to ensure the smooth and effective transition of said changes and the associated processes including equipment, tooling, and work instructions.
| QUALIFICATIONS [Education.Knowledge.Experience] - BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years' experience in mechanical, system design, and 3D CAD design.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as a designer and draftsperson, designing tool from sketches or verbal concepts.
- Knowledge of basic GD&T
- Proficient with SolidWorks 3D modeling package.
- Ability to concept and design solutions that are economical and technically sound.
- Knowledge of the use of pneumatics, as well as the use of electrical devices such as switches, servo systems, etc.
- Ongoing knowledge of leading-edge technology is essential.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization, and a strong focus on customer experience.
- Strong sense of urgency, and time management skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Communication: - Ability to clearly communicate information and ideas both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to listen to, read and understand information and ideas communicated verbally and in writing.
Work Environment and Physical Demands - 70% hands-on with 30% office environment
- Willingness and ability to work hands-on with equipment, including taking apart, installing, and verifying machinery functions.
- Willingness and ability to conduct hands-on troubleshooting and repairs of mechanical systems
- Regularly required to sit, stand, ben, crouch and walk
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
