Northwest Georgia Housing Authority (NWGHA) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Groundskeeper to oversee grounds maintenance operations across our residential communities. This position plays a vital role in ensuring our properties remain clean, safe, attractive, and welcoming for residents, visitors, and staff.

Position Summary

The Lead Groundskeeper is responsible for leading and coordinating grounds maintenance activities for Northwest Georgia Housing Authority properties. This position performs hands-on landscaping and groundskeeping work while providing direction, training, and oversight to Groundskeepers. The ideal candidate will have experience in landscape maintenance, equipment operation, and team leadership, along with a commitment to maintaining high standards of property appearance and resident satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise daily grounds maintenance activities across NWGHA properties.
  • Assign, monitor, and inspect work performed by Groundskeepers.
  • Maintain lawns, shrubs, trees, flower beds, and landscaped areas.
  • Oversee mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, mulching, and seasonal planting activities.
  • Ensure grounds, parking areas, sidewalks, playgrounds, and common areas remain clean and free of debris and trash.
  • Monitor properties for safety hazards and report maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Train Groundskeepers on proper landscaping techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
  • Operate and maintain landscaping equipment, including mowers, blowers, trimmers, hedge cutters, and other tools.
  • Coordinate the removal of bulk trash, leaves, storm debris, and other materials from NWGHA properties.
  • Assist with emergency response activities during severe weather and other events.
  • Maintain inventory of groundskeeping supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with NWGHA policies, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of activities performed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of groundskeeping, landscaping, or related maintenance experience.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of landscaping, lawn care, and grounds maintenance practices.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and motivate employees.
  • Skill in operating and maintaining landscaping equipment and tools.
  • Ability to identify and address safety concerns.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple assignments.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, and climbing.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate power equipment and vehicles.
