Position Summary
The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the grounds and exterior common areas of NWGHA properties. This position performs lawn care, landscaping, and general grounds maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and attractive environment for residents, visitors, and staff. The Groundskeeper works under the supervision of the Lead Groundskeeper and supports the overall maintenance team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Mow, edge, trim, and maintain lawns and landscaped areas.
- Plant, water, weed, prune, and maintain shrubs, trees, flowers, and other vegetation.
- Remove litter, debris, leaves, and bulk trash from Authority properties.
- Maintain cleanliness of parking lots, sidewalks, playgrounds, dumpster areas, and common grounds.
- Operate landscaping equipment, including mowers, weed eaters, blowers, hedge trimmers, and other hand and power tools.
- Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance activities, including mulching, leaf removal, and planting projects.
- Identify and report safety hazards, property damage, or maintenance concerns to the Lead Groundskeeper.
- Assist with storm cleanup and emergency response activities as needed.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures while performing assigned duties.
- Maintain equipment in good working order and report repair needs promptly.
- Interact professionally and courteously with residents, visitors, contractors, and coworkers.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- One (1) year of groundskeeping, landscaping, lawn care, or related experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record preferred.
- Ability to pass required background screening and drug testing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of lawn care and landscaping practices.
- Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment and tools.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain positive relationships with residents and staff.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
- Ability to safely operate equipment and tools used in grounds maintenance.
