NAMI Rome remains deeply committed to its founding mission: providing education, advocacy, and support to individuals and families impacted by mental health conditions. Today, the organization serves over 4,000 individuals annually through support groups, education, and community engagement.

The Opportunity
NAMI Rome seeks a dynamic, community-centered Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and impact. Reporting to and working in close partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, strengthen community relationships, and expand programs and resources. This is a part-time, in-person leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Culture
- Champion NAMI Rome’s mission through compelling communication and storytelling
- Foster an inclusive, welcoming, and mission-driven organizational culture
- Engage and inspire board members, volunteers, donors, and community partners
- Lead with authenticity, empathy, and a commitment to personal and organizational well-being
Board Partnership & Governance
- Cultivate a strong, collaborative relationship with the Board of Directors grounded in trust and transparency
- Equip board members with the tools, information, and training needed to serve effectively and act as ambassadors
- Support board effectiveness through communication, resources, and development
- Assist in board recruitment and engagement
Strategy & Organizational Development
- Creates and implements a clear, compelling strategic vision aligned with NAMI national and state priorities
- Translate strategy into actionable annual plans with measurable goals, accountability measures, and performance tracking
Operations & Management
- Recruit, lead, and support volunteers and program leaders to deliver high-quality programs
- Ensure compliance with NAMI standards and nonprofit regulations
- Oversee financial health, budgeting, reporting, and transparency
- Manage key initiatives, including NAMIWalks Rome
- Lead grant writing and funding efforts to sustain and grow operations
Programs & Impact
- Oversee a portfolio of programs aligned with community needs and organizational priorities
- Implement evaluation processes to measure impact and adapt programming based on community needs and continuous improvement
- Encourage innovation by piloting and scaling new initiatives
Fundraising & External Relations
- Serve as the organization’s lead fundraiser
- Develop and execute fundraising strategies, including grants and donor engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with donors, partners, and community stakeholders
- Represent NAMI Rome in the community through events, partnerships, and outreach

- Strong communication and storytelling abilities
- Integrity, humility, accountability and sound judgment
- Emotional intelligence, cultural responsiveness, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Strategic thinking with sound judgment and a collaborative leadership style
- The ability to listen actively and engage diverse stakeholders with empathy and respect
- Comfort navigating both strategy and day-to-day operations
- Digitally literate and open to new tools and approaches
- A growth mindset and openness to learning and innovation
- Familiar with the greater Rome and Floyd County area
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years in a senior leadership role (Executive Director, CEO, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience working with nonprofit boards
- Proven ability to lead organizational growth and manage operations
- Experience in fundraising and resource development
- Strong financial and organizational management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Bachelor’s degree required (advanced degree preferred)
Compensation & Work Environment
- $25/hour, 25 hours per week
- No benefits
- In-person role; regular office hours in Rome are required
- Active participation in community events and local engagement is expected
