POSITION SUMMARY:    Responsible for all aspects of SMAC’s health and safety program. Responsible for maintaining and promoting a safe work environment throughout SMAC. Works closely with SMAC’s management group to resolve work related hazards quickly and efficiently and looks for way to minimize any potential hazards in the workplace. Will also work closely with the production engineering team regarding environmental compliance and regulations.  


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  1. Implements, develops, and updates Health and Safety programs according to health and safety standards to meet regulatory requirements and to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.


  1. Responsible for ensuring safety policies are met and are followed consistently throughout the organization and provides suggestions on improvements to working conditions and/or ergonomics.


  1. Responsible for accident investigations and ensuring that corrective actions are taken within a reasonable time. All accidents and incidents are to be reported to the HR Manager and to SMAC’s VP/President as quickly as possible and are to be tracked and updated as needed. Responsible for updating and maintaining the Safety Log Spreadsheet and following up on items. 


  1. Responsible for monthly safety walks and must take the lead in correcting any potential hazards that are identified. Must take initiative to identify common injuries and or incidents to develop loss control programs to mitigate their occurrence. Responsible for updating and maintaining the Safety Walk Spreadsheet and following up on items. 


  1. Responsible for tracking incidents to include recordkeeping of the OSHA 300 &3001 forms and responsible for completing and posting the OSHA 300A. Responsible for tracking non-OSHA recordable incidents and providing a resolution within a reasonable time frame. Responsible for updating the No loss time count as needed.


  1.  Responsible for all aspects of SMAC’s worker’s compensation program to include communication between team members, WC carrier and medical providers. Works with manufacturing team to return team members to work and responsible for coordinating return to work when team members are on restrictions.


  1. Responsible for taking the lead and coordinating SMAC’s safety activities.


  1. Responsible for updating all the Safety procedures and policies to include SMAC’s emergency action/response plan and for coordinating fire and severe weather drills as scheduled.


  1. Responsible for developing and conducting team member training on a variety of topics to include OSHA required topics and ISO 14001:2015. Responsible for new team member/associate safety orientation. Responsible for determining the required trainings for our industry and must provide/update our training list yearly. Responsible for updating and maintaining the safety and environmental training Spreadsheets and scheduling training accordingly.  


  1. Maintain knowledge of current OSHA regulations by attending local seminars/trainings.  


  1. Continue safety team meetings and report findings/resolutions to HR Manager.


  1. Responsible for SMAC’s locker, safety shoes, safety glasses, uniform, and badge program.  Update the team member picture board as needed.


  1. Assist with Suzuki’s Team member employee purchase/discount program and parts orders.


  1. Responsible for ensuring SMAC’s Covid prevention program is being followed to include ensuring that temperatures are being taken at the beginning of each shift.


  1. Responsible for conducting SMAC’s Adaptive Motion Exercise program each morning.


  1. Participate in career fairs and recruitment activities as requested.


  1. Responsible for the Forklift, Tugger and Crane training and certification program.


  1. Responsible for DOT Program to include training & scheduling medical examinations.


  1. Responsible for SMAC’s MSDS program to include Right-to-Know training/requirements and for ensuring that Data Sheets are readily available and accessible to team members.


  1. Responsible for coordinating SMAC’s random drug screenings.


  1. Responsible for checking SMAC’s AWOL line and sending out an email to supervisors, Managers and HR.


  1. Responsible for SMAC’s Wellness initiatives and activities.


  1. Will work with other departments on Safety/Environmental requests from SMC, Japan and other external agencies.


  1. Will work closely with other departments when installing new equipment to ensure proper safety guards and other requirements are in place and provides training as required.
  2. Responsible for reporting all safety/environmental activities monthly.


  1. Participates in the morning toolbox meetings as needed.


  1. Reestablish SMAC’s safety committee.


  1. Other HR/Safety duties as assigned (hotel reservations, flags).


REQUIREMENTS:

  • At minimum 3 years of experience in a safety related role in a manufacturing facility.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and conducting safety and environmental programs in a manufacturing setting is required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Standards/requirements, Environmental compliance/ regulations and lean manufacturing concepts such as Kaizen, 6S, and lean manufacturing etc., are a plus. 
  • Knowledge of environmental laws/regulations (RCRA, CAA, CWA & SARA) experience with wastewater is a plus.
  • Technical skills as well as good reasoning ability, communication, interpersonal, and communications skills are essential as well as the ability to work independently, being proactive and staying on task.   
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or a related field is preferred.
