Job Summary


The Electrician is responsible for performing skilled and technical duties in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and Life safety systems of the College. This position is designated as Essential Personnel.


Responsibilities


• Is responsible to understand, support, and carry out the college's mission, vision, and values and comply with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies.


• Maintains and repairs electrical systems and Life safety systems in college buildings and facilities


• Installs, repairs, and replaces electrical circuits, distribution panels, receptacles, switches, and light fixtures including fluorescent ballasts and tubes, incandescent bulbs, LED and other electrical devices


• Determines the type, size, and quality of electrical wires, panel boards, switch boxes and other equipment necessary to perform the job


• Troubleshoots, locates, diagnoses, and repairs shop equipment and building electrical systems


• Reads and interprets electrical schematics, blueprints, services manuals, and data on equipment to diagnose problems


• Reads wiring diagrams, diagnoses and trouble shoots control panels


• Assists with implementing energy management systems and assessing rebate programs from utility company and manufacturers


• Responds to after-hours emergencies


• Is required to maintain a normal work schedule during inclement weather or other emergencies unless specifically excused ' Essential Employee.


• Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications


• Basic knowledge associated with completion of a high school diploma or equivalent and knowledge and level of competency associated with completion of specialized training in the field work.


• At least five (5) years of electrical experience in facilities construction/maintenance installation, service, and/or repair.


• Possess a non-restricted electrical license. (active/unexpired)


• Possess Georgia Soil Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) certification


• Knowledge of or certification on Notifier and other fire alarm equipment


• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated


• Required to hold a GHC purchasing card which requires a credit check to receive and continue holding a purchasing card.


Proposed Salary


The salary for this position is $58,635 annually and is a non-exempt position and eligible for over-time.


This is a fully benefitted position.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


• Knowledge off electrical system installation, maintenance, and repair methods and techniques


• Knowledge of state and national electrical codes, Life Safety Codes (NFPA1-1, NFPA70E, NFPA70, and IFC101)


• Knowledge of electronic control, monitoring systems, and programming of fire alarm panels


• Skill in repair and maintenance of building systems


• Skill in troubleshooting and repairing electrical and low voltage problems


• Skill in using various hand and power tools


• Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions


• Skill in verbal and written communication


• Ability to work independently and to comprehend and carry out instructions

The Building Maintenance Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions and spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the results.


This position does not supervise the work of others.


Guidelines include building, ADA, and life safety codes; OSHA regulations; the National Electric Code; and National Fire Protection association standards. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.


Additional guidelines include college policies and procedures, the college employee handbook, the Board of Regents policies and procedures, federal/state/local regulations, procedures manual, and the college continuing education manual. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation and judgment.


The work consists of varied building and electrical maintenance duties. The variety of systems to be maintained contributes to the complexity of the position.


The purpose of this position is to provide electrical support to the maintenance of college buildings. Success in this position contributes to a safe, well maintained, attractive, and efficient campus/instructional site environment.


Frequently encounters hazards associated with electrical repairs, exposure to hazardous material, and hot working conditions. Work is in both indoor and outdoor environment. Inclement weather can be a factor. Could lift upwards of 50lbs. Climbs ladders to heights up to 10'. Operates boom or scissor lifts to achieve heights greater than 10'. Operates Company vehicle. Responds to emergencies 24 hours a day as available.


Essential Employee ' required to work during hazardous or emergency weather conditions in order to maintain critical institutional functions. As referenced in GHC policy HR.262, Emergency/Inclement Weather Closing,''Employees whose job responsibilities may require that they work during hazardous or emergency weather conditions in order to maintain critical institutional functions' may be designated as Essential Employees. Essential Employees may be called upon to perform their essential functions even during a campus/instructional site closing.''
