Director of Development

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Rome and Floyd County, a leading charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Development Director serves on the CEO’s senior leadership team and provides strategic leadership in financial development to advance the YMCA’s mission through annual giving, major gifts, government and foundation grants, endowment bequests and gifts, capital campaigns, and fundraising events. The Development Director assists the CEO in developing an actively engaged fundraising volunteer board of directors and positions the Y as a community convener and collaborator to address critical social issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Develops and oversees the Y’s annual fundraising plan, including annual campaign, capital campaign, endowment campaign, planned giving, and special fundraising campaigns.


Collaborates with Y Directors to strategize and implement fundraising opportunities and events for the organization.


Develops processes and is actively involved in identifying, cultivating, and solicitating major gift prospects, and maintains database of donors and top community leaders.

Secures financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations.

Researches and applies for grant opportunities. Coordinates with department directors and CFO to meet grant deliverables.

Develops and maintains ongoing relationships with major donors.

Develops proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising, and major gift presentations.

Tracks all gifts and pledges by source and purpose and provides reports as needed.

Creates and implements effective communication strategies with compelling messages that inspire others to accomplish the mission and cause with maximum impact. 


Develops communication plans to ensure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support.


Develops and manages Board fundraising capacity.


Other duties as needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our organization’s values.



 QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

A bachelor’s degree is preferred. 


3 to 5 years of experience in development with a proven track record for meeting contributed revenue targets, preferably in non-profit sector.


Entrepreneurial spirit able to take initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donor relationships and to forge new ones.


Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills.


Working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles.


Strong verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively.


Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage relationships.


Strong partnership-building.


Event planning skills.


Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base.


Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.


Completion CPR/First AID/AED training required within 30 days of hire and kept current while employed by the YMCA.



  

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

 

Salary range $55,000 - $75,000 (to be determined by applicant’s experience and qualifications, as well as internal equity and alignment with our Salary Administration Plan).
