POSITION TITLE: (M5) Custodian

WORK DAYS: 240

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

REPORTS TO: Principal or building supervisor

SALARY SCHEDULE: C


REQUIREMENTS:

  •  Ability to read basic operation instructions and write report

  •  Demonstrates aptitude for successful completion of the tasks assigned

  •  Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Cleans and maintains all boilers and other major equipment

  • Generally supervises and maintains the school grounds

  • Supervises and participates in the general cleaning and maintenance of the school building 

  • Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity

  • Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture

  • Cleans corridors before/after hours each day, and during the day when their condition requires it

  • Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilet floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily

  • Keeps the grounds free from trash

  • Makes such minor building repairs as he is capable of

  • Reports major repairs needed promptly to the building supervisor

  • Reports immediately to the building supervisor any damage to building or grounds 

  • Assumes responsibility for the opening and/or closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off

  • Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the building supervisor

  • Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste

  • Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to insure their safe condition 

  • Requisitions and receives supplies and equipment, and maintains necessary inventories 

  • Assumes responsibility for the general fire safety of the building

  • Performs emergency repair or cleaning services as necessary

  • Performing other duties assigned by the supervisor and/or the central administration

  • Working of the goals and objectives listed on the previous performance evaluation form
