We are looking for a Counselor I!
The purpose of this classification is to provide counseling services to inmates in the County correctional facility, maintaining detailed records and databases.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares departmental files on all inmates; files reports and forms; maintains file system of departmental records; locates/re-files records; enters all inmate contacts into computer database.
- Teaches courses related to substance abuse, family violence, motivation, change, re-entry and other topics to inmates.
- Responds to routine requests for information or assistance from inmates, court officials, employees, the general public, or other individuals.
- Provides general counseling to inmates in correctional institute; assists inmates in dealing with life-adjusting problems; performs crisis intervention as needed; responds to, investigates, and settles inmate grievances.
- Assists in identifying work skills of inmates and in determining best use of those skills on work crews involved in County work projects; participates in Classification Committee; attends meetings; makes recommendations.
- Compiles and/or tracks various administrative and/or statistical data pertaining to inmate activities or other departmental operations; prepares or generates reports; maintains records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Business Administration, Public Administration; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
