JOB SUMMARY:

Performs inspections of buildings and structures to verify compliance with the State and Local adopted minimum construction codes. These inspections include those for buildings under construction and/or undergoing remodeling.  Building types include commercial, industrial and residential.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and the ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints; reads, understands, and effectively interprets State of Georgia uniform model codes.
  • Knowledge of applicable uniform model codes, including but not limited to, the International Residential, Building, Mechanical, Property Maintenance, and Plumbing Code; the National Electric Code.
  • Ability to establish and conduct verbal communications through speaking, talking, and hearing; efficiently and effectively deal with frequent interruptions and requests for assistance; and effectively prioritizes work efforts and schedules to accomplish assigned work on a timely basis.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer with appropriate software as demonstrated by prior use of a computer and word processing software.
  • Ability to operate the following equipment: personal computer, telephone, photocopier, electrical testers, fax; digital camera; assigned City vehicle with two-way radio; and extension ladders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years (depending on classification level) previous work experience in building inspection, construction plans design, review, or inspection; construction or an inspection-related position.
  • Possession of ICC (International Code Council) Residential Combination Inspector. ICC certification is required within one year of appointment.
  • Meet Official Code of Georgia Annotated (O.C.G.A.) Section 8-2-26.1 for Qualified Inspector.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class C driver’s license in state of residency.
  • Must obtain National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) 100 and 700 within three (3) months of employment.
