General Description:

 

Under the general direction and supervision of the City of Rome/Floyd County Building Official, the Code Enforcement Officer enforcing a variety of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations related to nuisance housing, building codes, health and safety, blight, and other matters of public concern. Work is split between in-office and field work.  This position will work closely with the Community Development Department staff.



Minimum Qualifications:

 

High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate Degree from an accredited college or an accredited technical college involving Environment Studies, code compliance, or Construction Technology helpful; supplemented by one to two years previous experience and/or training involving code enforcement or a related field.

Possess or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire a valid International Code Council (ICC) Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector Certification.

  • Possession or ability to obtain within three (3) years of hire a valid International Code Council (ICC) Residential Combination Inspector Certification.

Possess effective problem solving skills and must have excellent administrative and interpersonal skills. 

Must have strong written and oral communications. 

Must possess the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in critical and/or unexpected situations involving risk.

Must be able to communicate effectively with all types of people, Spanish desirable.

Must be proficient in Microsoft software systems.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class C driver’s license in state of residency.
  • Must obtain National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) 100 and 700 within three (3) months of employment.
