POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Children’s Ministry Director supports the ministry of Rome First UMC by helping children ages 0-5th grade learn about God’s love and grace in age-appropriate ways and understand what it means to love God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). This is a part-time position, working about 5-7 hours per week. Some weeks will require fewer hours, while some will require more during special events.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Exhibit a mature faith in Jesus Christ. A mature disciple is one who fulfills the membership vows of The United Methodist Church (specifically the vows pertaining to prayers, presence, service and witness) and exhibits the fruits of the spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23.
Plan programs in consultation with the pastoral staff that teach our children about God’s love and grace and encourage them in age-appropriate ways to love God in return.
Oversee children’s Sunday School, resourcing teachers and leading the class when needed.
Make sure that all children’s ministries reflect our Wesleyan heritage and are true to the theology of The United Methodist Church.
Be able to discuss the basic tenets of UMC theology, including the types of grace and significance of baptism and communion, in age-appropriate ways.
Recruit and train adult volunteers for children’s ministry.
Build and maintain good relationships with families of young children at Rome First UMC.
Ensure that you and all volunteers have successfully completed a background check within the past 4 years and Safe Sanctuary training within the past 3 years.
Ensure that the church’s Safe Sanctuary policy is followed during all children’s activities. Review the policy annually to see if updates are needed.
Create an annual budget that reflects the needs of the children’s ministry and ensure that spending does not exceed the budget approved by One Board.
Ensure that the church nursery is adequately staffed and that all safety procedures are followed.
Supervise the nursery director, ensuring that a safe and nurturing environment is maintained.
Participate fully as a team member of the church staff by attending all One Board meetings and staff gatherings and retreats unless excused by the senior pastor. Attend staff meetings when possible.
Manage other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Have experience teaching and leading children.
Have basic knowledge of the United Methodist Church, including UMC theology.
Work well with children and parents to share information in clear and engaging ways.
Demonstrate the ability to work well and cooperatively with other team members.
Bachelor’s degree in related field or previous experience preferred.
Additional Details: Reports to the Senior Pastor. Salary $550 a month, paid semimonthly.
