Children's Coordinator - Rome/Floyd County Library

Position Objectives

-Plans, organizes, and delivers educational and developmental programs and services to youth and teens.

-In coordination with the Branch Manager, performs duties related to library operations, outreach programs and special activities.

-Promote literacy and learning within the realm of Children’s Services, including with families, caregivers, teachers, and organizations.

-Work with school media specialists and supportive groups to develop and expand Children’s Services. 

-Develop and implement new ways of engaging the community and non-library users. 


Principal Responsibilities and Duties

-Help establish and maintain a high standard of children' s services throughout Floyd County.

-Coordinates with the Collection Services Manager and Branch Manager in the selection, ordering, and weeding of the Children’s and Young Adult Libraries. 

-Responsible for order and appearance of collection.  

-Develop and conduct a variety of library programs for children and teenagers.

-Assist and instruct children and adults in the use of library service resources.  

-Conduct library tours for children and visit area schools.

-In coordination with the SHRLS Outreach Department, promote and publicize the services, programs and resources of the Children’s Department with preparing flyers and brochures for services and programs. 

-In coordination with the Branch Manager, supervise duties of staff and volunteers while working in the Children’s Department. 

-Keep informed of trends in children’s literature and library services affecting children and youth.  

-Attend professional workshops and conferences sponsored by GPLS.

-In coordination with the Branch Manager, order supplies as needed.

-Communicate with Branch Manager regarding the operations in the Children’s and Young Adult Department and prepare reports as needed.

-Performs other related duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

-Considerable knowledge of children’s and young adult library services, programs and literature.

-Working knowledge of library principles and practices.

-Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work routines.

-Knowledge of the PINES system.

-Excellent oral and written communication skills.

-Knowledge of collection in the children’s and young adult department.

-Ability to select items for collections.

-Supervisory skills.

-Ability to work with children, both individually and in groups and skills in dealing effectively with parents and adults.

-Due to the diverse nature of our community, bilingual abilities are preferred but not required. 

       

Physical Demands

-Intermittent standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending or crouching.

-Occasionally lifting of light to heavy objects.  

    

Minimum Qualification

-Baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to occupational field.

-1-2 two years experience of working in a public library.


Salary Range

$35,500 - $37,000 depending on experience
