Child Advocate

Position Summary:
The Child Advocate plays a critical role in supporting the emotional, physical, and psychological well-being of children who have been impacted by domestic violence. This position provides direct services to child clients residing in shelter or participating in outreach programs, and works closely with parents/guardians, shelter staff, and community partners to ensure a holistic, trauma-informed approach to care and advocacy.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide age-appropriate crisis intervention, emotional support, and safety planning for children exposed to domestic violence.

Facilitate individual and group activities that promote healing, emotional expression, and resilience in children.

Collaborate with the parent/guardian to support non-offending caregivers in understanding the impact of trauma on children and reinforcing positive parenting strategies.

Conduct child intake assessments to determine individual needs and appropriate service plans.

Serve as a liaison with schools, mental health providers, DFCS, law enforcement, and other community agencies to coordinate services and referrals.

Maintain accurate and confidential client records, documentation, and reports in accordance with organizational policies and grant requirements.

Participate in community education and awareness events that promote child safety and domestic violence prevention.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, and family systems.

Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Must pass a background check and complete required training on domestic violence and child advocacy.

Reports To:
Program Director or Executive Director


Pay: $14.00 per hour

Shift: Monday-Friday, 3 pm - 10 pm

 Work Environment:

This position may require work in the shelter environments. The Child Advocate must maintain a high level of emotional resilience and confidentiality while working in potentially high-stress situation.
