Job Title: Child Advocate

Position type: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Reports to: Program Manager


Position Summary:

The Child Advocate is responsible for managing the needs of children receiving services through Hospitality

House for Women, which includes children in-shelter and the community. The child advocate will share age-

appropriate knowledge of child development with parents and facilitate community activities that encourage

positive childhood experiences and parent-child interaction.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Client Services

Conducts an age-appropriate program intake, assessments, and orientation of children.

Establishes a positive relationship with each child.

Develops a weekly activity schedule to include topics such as exploring feelings and adjusting to a new environment, conflict resolution, building positive socialization, building self-esteem and health/safety education.

Facilitates and documents bi-weekly parenting support groups for residents.

Arranges for childcare when parents have appointments related to meeting their goals or

participating in services.

Facilitates a weekly grief support group for children

Maintains the safety of all children’s play equipment, both inside and outside.

Ensures developmental, physical, and socio-emotional needs of all children are met by educating parents on age-appropriate child development and related topics.

Answers 24-hour crisis line as assigned and accurately documents call information into database.


Administrative Duties

Accurately documents all paperwork and enters it into database within 48 hours.

Adhere to agency policies and work rules including strict adherence to confidentiality policies and

code of ethics.

Maintains up-to-date community resource information for children of domestic violence victims.

Attend agency staff meetings as requested by Assistant or Executive Director

Maintain professional boundaries.

Attend 40 hours of online domestic violence and sexual assault training within the first 90 days of hire.

• Attend additional training and continuing education as assigned at a minimum of 20 hrs. annually

after the first year.

Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification.


Qualifications:

Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education field preferred.

Knowledge of child development for children 0-17.

Experience with home visiting programs.

Minimum one year’s experience working with a non-profit, government agency and/orcommunity service.

Must have a valid driver’s license.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals.

Preferred skills include knowledge of child development, positive parenting techniques,increasing protective factors, the ability to work self-directed or in a team setting, and a strong work ethic.

Physical requirements: May require some heavy lifting and otherwise typical office tasks
