The Charter School of Education and Human Sciences at Berry College invites applications for a Full-Time Assistant Teacher at the Berry College Child Development Center (CDC). We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, patient, and dedicated early childhood educator who is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children.
The Berry College Child Development Center is a private, tuition-based laboratory school operated under the governance of Berry College's Charter School of Education and Human Sciences. Licensed by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), the CDC provides a high-quality early childhood education experience for children ages three through five. The Center serves as a model learning environment that integrates the resources of Berry College with research-based best practices in early childhood education.
Position Responsibilities
The Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to support all aspects of the preschool classroom. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with daily classroom instruction, activities, and routines.
- Supporting lesson planning, preparation, organization, and implementation of developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Facilitating small-group and individualized learning activities.
- Supervising children during instructional activities, free-choice play, outdoor experiences, meals, transitions, and other classroom routines.
- Creating and maintaining a positive, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Supporting children's social-emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development.
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation required by state licensing regulations.
- Communicating professionally and effectively with children, families, colleagues, and Berry College students.
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding children, families, and Center operations.
- Assisting with the training, guidance, and supervision of student workers.
- Collaborating with the Lead Teacher and CDC staff to ensure consistent classroom practices and high-quality care.
- Participating in professional development and contributing to the continued improvement of the Center's educational program.
The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year (July-June) and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in early childhood education, elementary education, child development, or a related field.
- Training or coursework in early childhood education, elementary education, child development, or a related field.
- At least two years of professional experience working with young children in an early childhood education setting.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and classroom-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, elementary education, child development, or a related field.
- Three or more years of experience working in an early childhood education setting.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children in a licensed early childhood program.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and early childhood learning standards.
- Experience supporting inclusive classrooms and children with diverse learning and developmental needs.
