Assistant Soccer Coach – Men’s & Women’s
The Assistant Soccer Coach is a member of the Shorter University Athletic Department. Under the direction of the Head Soccer Coach, the assistant coach is principally responsible for assisting in the instruction and development of all student-athletes within the intercollegiate Soccer program. The assistant coach will also maintain positive public relations for the Athletic Department and act in accordance with institutional, conference, and NCAA rules, regulations, and policies.
Qualifications:
- Outstanding interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills to be successful.
- Must be dedicated to the success of the team and have the ability to make decisions quickly, while under extreme pressure. Has prior playing and coaching experience at the collegiate level, but it is not required.
- Needs a thorough knowledge of NCAA rules.
- Must have familiarity with computer systems, good oral and written communication skills as well as strong organizational, management, and supervisory skills.
- All candidates are required to have a bachelor’s degree.
Essential Job Duties:
- Directly responsible to the Head Soccer Coach.
- Provides instruction to student-athletes on Soccer fundamentals, performance, and strategy.
- Assists the Head Coach in organizing and conducting practice sessions and game plans.
- Assists the Head Coach in game day preparations and responsibilities
- Assists the Head Coach in player personnel decisions.
- Instructs on physical health and safety as it pertains to team participation.
- Designs individualized instruction for specific student-athletes and as needed relative to the team.
- Has a thorough knowledge of NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
- Adheres to and enforce all policies and procedures as stated in the Shorter University Athletic Department Policies and Procedures Manual and the rules and regulations as stated in the NCAA Division II Manual. Assists with student-athlete understanding and compliance with such rules.
- Reports any alleged violations of NCAA, conference or institutional rules and regulations.
- Organizes and confirms all team travel arrangements.
- Recruits academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
- Monitors and advise student-athletes on academic matters.
- Oversees film review, instruction, and exchange.
- Attends professional meetings, clinics, workshops, etc.
- Assists the Director of Sports Information & Promotions and Head Coach regarding publicity and promotion of the Soccer program.
- Assists Head Coach and Director of Athletics in developing and enforcing training rules and a code of conduct for student-athletes.
- Develops a work schedule (office hours) that make him/her accessible to the student-athlete and other schools.
- Oversees the responsibilities of the managers and the program’s work study students.
- Responsible for other details or other assignments by the Head Coach and/or Director of Athletics.
