ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION (TENURE -TRACK)

The Department of Teacher Education at Berry College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with expertise in Elementary Education. The Department seeks a faculty member with significant experience with teacher education programs and an established scholarship record, who can mentor and supervise undergraduates in field experience and research. Applicants with backgrounds in special education are encouraged to apply and assist in the possible development of a program in that area.

Members of the Teacher Education faculty strive to be superior teachers and mentors inside and outside of the classroom. Students' coursework and field placements are personalized to the student experience and include opportunities for travel and study abroad. The ideal candidate will contribute to the vitality of the campus and local community by engaging with on- and off-campus school partners in a community-based learning model. Field placements and student teaching opportunities are augmented by two on-campus laboratory schools: a child development center (3-4 yr olds) and an elementary and middle school (K-8); Berry College also partners with Rome City Schools to operate an early learning center in South Rome (3 yr olds). Teacher Education has a long history of service and community outreach, with Berry students collectively contributing over 50,000 hours of service to local schools every year. Teacher Education has existing, collaborative agreements with most P-12 schools in the region.

Primary teaching responsibilities include courses in the core Elementary Education sequence (Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Mgt, etc) and supervision of student teachers. We seek applicants who will contribute to Berry's Good Neighbor culture.

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Elementary Education by August 2026; candidates who are currently ABD should earn their degree by the date of employment. Additionally, candidates should have 3 years of P-12 classroom teaching experience.
