Overview
The Assistant Foreman is chosen by the Foreman to be their “right hand” and someone who they believe can be pulled up as a future Foreman. The Assistant Foreman is responsible for learning the whats and whys of each job and to assist the Foreman with daily tasks. The Assistant Foreman should be able to take the reins if the Foreman is absent including handling schedules, meetings, communication with customers, ordering materials, and running each job safely and efficiently. They are the #2 person responsible for the job their crew is assigned to. Reports directly to Foreman and then to Operations Managers.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead by example (PPE, tools, diligence).
- Oversee crew development, documentation (including write-ups), and encouragement.
- Identify efficient crews and make recommendations for adjusting teams as needed.
- Assign assistant foremen to jobs/crews based on reliability and experience.
- Provide assistant foremen with necessary schedules, paperwork, blueprints, and contacts as needed.
- Prioritize safety.
- Oversee asset management and ensure tools & equipment are properly used, maintained, and reported to Shop Manager for repair when needed.
- Remove tools and equipment from service when they need repair.
- Know and implement all company policies and procedures.
- Maintain good rapport with customers, vendors, inspectors, and the public.
- Attend job-relevant weekly meetings to assess details and changes/needs for jobs including pour dates, inspections, equipment/material delivery.
- Work with Operations Managers to create daily schedules and goals for your assigned jobs.
- Accomplish assigned production goals or provide sound reasoning as to why goals were not met including a plan to get back on track to achieve goals.
- Ensure tools and equipment aren’t being mishandled, abused, or daily maintenance neglected.
- Preemptively communicate labor needs to Operations Managers.
- Ensure all paperwork is filled out accurately and turned in daily (JSA, Prep/pour card, inspections, timesheets, and daily reports).
Pre-Job Planning
- Attend pre-construction meetings to determine required safety procedures based on job site conditions and materials (OSHA, PPE).
- Collect project plans, production goals, schedules, and specifications from Operation Managers.
- Work with Operation Managers to develop a schedule for each job.
On the Job
- Ensure all tools, fuel, and equipment needed for the job are obtained before leaving the shop.
- Hold daily morning meetings for Job Safety Assessments and Toolbox Talks and complete required corresponding paperwork.
- Communicate daily goals for assigned crews.
- Train field personnel on your teams.
- Supervise crew throughout the shift, ensuring safety, appropriate breaks, and organization.
- Resolve problems with projects, materials, and workers as they arise, bringing any issues to the Operations Manager’s attention.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks on all tools and equipment.
- Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient way to ensure zero accidents and maintain job budgets.
- Ensure operators inspect, grease, and fill out reports on all equipment (rented or owned) and submit inspection report daily to the Shop Manager.
- Manage field to minimize overtime and communicate prior to overtime being needed.
- Work with Operations Managers on field orders (hauling forms, finishing equipment, dirt, rock, etc.).
- Load and unload trucks/materials safely.
- Fill out and schedule a pour/prep card inspection with Operations Managers for all concrete or asphalt pours.
Requirements
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of job site experience
- OSHA 10 certified
- Trenching and excavation certified
- Silica Competent Person certified
- Confined Space Entry Competent Person certified
- Organizational skills and planning experience
- Good communication skills
- Familiarity with construction equipment
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Ability to walk up slopes/stairs

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
