ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Berry College's Academic Success Center seeks an Assistant Director who will be passionate about supporting students to oversee learning center operations and advance an already vibrant culture of peer-to-peer support. The Assistant Director will work within the context of a highly energetic, student-facing environment that fosters growth, creativity, accountability, and initiative.

Reporting to the Associate Director for Academic Transitions and working closely with the Director of the Writing Center, the Assistant Director will be responsible for the daily operations of Berry College's Writing Center and Academic Success Center. Responsibilities include collaborating with a Student Leadership Team to supervise and support more than seventy student employees, create schedules for services and individual tutors, market services and events, plan and execute events in collaboration with key campus partners, and contribute to broader initiatives within the division of Student Success. Additionally, the Assistant Director will help lead Berry College's Theodore Roosevelt Scholars program, including planning and providing developmental, supportive programming for forty to sixty participants. The Assistant Director will evenly split their work hours between traditional business hours and the evening hours of the Writing Center and Academic Success Center and will enjoy a flexible work schedule within those parameters.

This position requires a commitment to working collaboratively with faculty and staff to serve students. Successful candidates will be excellent communicators with the ability to provide engaging, interactive presentations to students. Candidates should also share a commitment to mentoring students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds. While prior experience supervising a team is valued, it is not required.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree by May 2024
  • At least 2 years of experience in a context of student support (Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, or other relevant student-facing experiences; may include work as a graduate assistant or undergraduate)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading or supervising a group
  • Completion of coursework in Education, Psychology, English, Communication, or a related field
  • Knowledge surrounding best practices related to academic success within a collegiate setting.
