Job Summary


This position is responsible for coordinating advising initiatives, while also serving as an academic advisor by providing accurate advising information to students on all Georgia Highlands campuses.


Responsibilities


• Coordinates the implementation of the advising activities, calendar, assessment, and evaluation process


• Organizes student-facing advising events


• Serve as a departmental liaison for special advising projects and initiatives


• Creates and maintains an advising, course scheduling, and registration communication plan for students


• Communicates with faculty and academic deans regarding curriculum changes


• Assists in training faculty advisors, other professional advisors, and other employees of the college who play a role in academic advising


• Serves as an administrator of the college's student success management technology platform and supports advising faculty and staff with entries, reports, and quality assurance.


• Serves as design specialist within the advising department; maintains departmental website; creates departmental documents, guides, materials, and marketing materials; updates curriculum changes in advising documents and systems


• Assists with the College's advisor assignment and advising holds processes


• Develops partnerships with other academic departments


• Provides high quality advising to current Georgia Highlands College students


• Develops multi-semester degree planning following curriculum guidelines; aligns students' academic interests and aptitudes with appropriate professional goals


• Connects students with appropriate academic and non-academic student services that promote their success


• Maintains thorough and accurate documentation of individual advising sessions


• Registers students with academic holds, those who experience computer generated prerequisite blocks, those approved for overrides, and those who are unsure or unclear about their registration skills; preregisters students for their first term at GHC


• Attends new student orientations, training and meetings


• Travels to other campuses to assist with advising and orientation


• Serves on committees as requested


• Performs related duties


Required Qualifications


• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field


• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years


• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated


Proposed Salary


$45,500 annually

• Knowledge of best practices in system-wide assessment


• Knowledge of Banner advising/registration system


• Knowledge of survey and assessment tools


• Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs


• Knowledge of relevant federal, state and local government guidelines


• Knowledge of system and college policies regarding enrollment, student support services, work study/financial aid, registration, and testing


• Skill in the completion of required reports


• Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions


• Skill in oral and written communication
