What is your/your family's "why" for running your business?

Our why for running Shift Therapy & Wellness is deeply rooted in our mission: *to get people moving and keep them moving despite their age or health conditions, enabling them to live their fullest life.*

Deron and I both started our careers in home health care, where we witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by individuals who were confined to their homes, often at a point where intervention came too late to make a significant impact. This experience opened our eyes to the importance of proactive care. We realized that if we could reach people earlier, before they became shut-ins or felt limited by their health, we could make a meaningful difference in their lives.

Beyond timing, we also saw many of our patients become caught in the frustrating cycle of traditional medical care: months-long waits for follow-up appointments, being referred to multiple specialists, and never feeling truly heard or understood as a whole person. Chronic pain and health conditions often fell through the cracks of this fragmented system.

We knew there had to be a better way—a way to provide compassionate, personalized care that empowers individuals to take control of their health and mobility. That’s why we started Shift Therapy & Wellness. It’s not just about treating conditions; it’s about offering hope, building strength, and creating a path forward for everyone we serve.

Tell us a little about yourself, your family (if family business) or work family:

I’ve been a Physical Therapist for 15 years and hold credentials as a GCS (Geriatric Clinical Specialist) and CF-L2 (CrossFit Level 2 coach). I am passionate about helping people get stronger and move better. My husband, Deron, has been an Occupational Therapist for 14 years and is an avid cyclist. He’s dedicated to helping older adults maintain their independence and accomplish tasks like getting on and off the floor without fear. In addition to his therapy work, Deron is highly skilled as a bike mechanic and bike fitter.

Our family also plays a big role in our journey. We have two boys, Nate (11) and Jenson (9), who attend East Central and are involved in band, cross country, football, basketball, and baseball. Together, we strive to embody the active and connected lifestyle we encourage in our community.

Why do you choose Floyd County for yourself/family and your business?

We chose Floyd County for our family and business because it felt like the perfect place to call home. We moved to Rome from Hattiesburg, MS, on a total whim in 2017. When we were graduating from PT and OT school at the University of South Alabama, Floyd Hospital came to recruit our classes. We were immediately drawn to this quaint town near the mountains, with its beautiful rivers and trail system. It seemed like an ideal place to raise a family. From the moment we arrived, the community welcomed us with open arms, and it has felt like home ever since. We couldn’t be happier with our decision to plant roots here.
