The purpose of this classification is to perform field supervision and administrative functions in support of Public Works Superintendents. Responsibilities include assisting with personnel issues, dealing with citizens, ordering materials, and scheduling work.
• Supervises and coordinates daily work activities of assigned crew or co-workers: confers with section supervisor regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks in order to complete assigned work; assigns employees to proper job(s); monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; assists with complex/problem situations and provides technical expertise; evaluates employee performance.
• Receives and responds to citizen inquiries and complaints; conducts inspections related to complaints; provides information, researches problems, initiates phone calls, etc.; initiates necessary maintenance and repair activities.
• Communicates with Superintendent, Section Supervisor, citizens, other employees, third party service contractors, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, receive advice/direction, or resolve problems. 
• Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
High school diploma or equivalent; supplemented by two (2) years of experience in road construction supervision or public works management, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.  Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License and Correctional Officer Certification or obtain within 6 months.
