Assistant Director - Emergency Management

We are looking for an Assistant Emergency Management Director!

The purpose of this classification is to perform complex professional and difficult administrative work planning, directing, and coordinating emergency management and disaster preparedness, preparing and maintaining files, coordinating activities with other departments and agencies, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates the response efforts of the County in large-scale emergencies or disasters.
  • Responds to emergencies as necessary including but not limited to search and rescue, events affecting a significant portion of the population, and storm damage.
  • Establishes policies and procedures for emergency and disaster response activities; monitors and evaluates response effectiveness.
  • Prepares and implements emergency plans in accordance with County ordinance and State law.
  • Updates the emergency operation plan for the County public safety operations.
  • Develops plan for mitigation, response and recovery for all types of man-made or natural disasters.
  • Serves as the liaison between the County, Local Municipalities, Federal and State Emergency.
  • Management pertaining to emergency situations; plans and mitigates issues.
  • Provides information and makes recommendations to Director, County Management, Community Leaders and elected officials during disasters.
  • Coordinates, develops and participates in emergency drills and training exercises with other emergency response agencies; ensures drills are in compliance with Federal Emergency Management Agency and Georgia Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency training and exercise standards.
  • Develops and presents disaster preparedness programs to citizen groups and other response agencies.
  • Writes grants for emergency response and preparedness.
  • Maintains and activates the Emergency Operations Center as necessary; prepares the center for training activation.
  • Prepares reports and records; maintains files.
  • Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent customer service.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in emergency management, public safety fields, public administration, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in emergency management operations, public safety, and administration.
  • Candidates may qualify with any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess or obtain Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) certification within one (1) year of employment.
