LECTURER IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

Posted: 09/10/2023

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Teacher Education at Berry College invites applications for a Lecturer in Mathematics Education with additional expertise in Technology Education. As the department is expanding its teacher preparation in mathematics education, the department seeks a faculty member who can contribute broadly to serving mathematics education as well as help integrate technology across the entire P-12 curriculum.
Members of the Teacher Education faculty strive to be superior teachers and mentors inside and outside of the classroom. Students' course work and field placements are personalized to the student experience and include numerous opportunities for travel and study abroad. The ideal candidate will contribute to the vitality of the campus and local community by engaging with our on- and off-campus school partners on a regular basis and with students in a community-based learning model.
Field placements and student teaching opportunities are augmented by two on-campus laboratory schools?a child development center (3-4 yr olds) and an elementary and middle school (K-8); Berry College also partners with Rome City Schools and the South Rome Alliance to operate an early learning center in South Rome (3 yr olds). Teacher Education has a long history of service and community outreach, with Berry students collectively contributing over 50,000 hours of service to local schools every year. The Office of Field Experience and Clinical Practice works to place students with the most outstanding teachers in the area.
Primary teaching responsibilities include courses in the core Mathematics Education sequence (depending upon the candidate's background) as well as courses in Educational Technology. Preference is for Elementary Mathematics Education but we welcome applications from Secondary Mathematics Education too. This person will also collaborate with current faculty to infuse technology into existing courses, as well as develop new courses and supervise student teachers in math education. We seek applicants who will contribute to the Berry's culture of diversity and belonging.
REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must hold a Masters or Education Specialist degree by August 2024 with at least one degree in mathematics education or a degree in mathematics with another in education. A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Mathematics Education is preferred. Additionally, candidates should have 3 years of P-12 classroom teaching experience.
