Qualifications: Minimum of MLS from an ALA approved program with a second Master’s, Specialist Degree, or Doctorate desirable. The person should have 5-10 years of experience in administrative positions in academic libraries, demonstrated communication skills, current awareness and depth of knowledge in the field of librarianship and commitment to Christian education and the library profession.
Preferred qualifications: Proficient with OCLC WMS. Demonstrated enthusiasm for and knowledge of information literacy, digital literacy, and effective instruction methods.
Individuals Supervised: All professional, paraprofessional, and clerical staff employed in the library as well as student workers as needed.
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Provost, supervises all library staff. Independently makes decisions on issues affecting daily routine, manages staff, and ensures the smooth operation of the library. Performs all duties associated with the Director of Library Services. Responsible for overseeing all areas of library operations (budgeting, planning, collection development, access services, technical services, assessment). Maintains positive working relationships with other departments.
Job Duties:
- Lead library staff in providing library resources and services to support the curriculum and the university’s mission.
- Develop and implement long range plans for adapting the library to the changing academic library environment in keeping with the university’s mission.
- Work collaboratively with the academic deans and directors.
- Serve on the appropriate university committees.
- Represent the university within local and statewide academic consortia, etc.
- Prepare recommendations to the Provost on library staff appointments, salaries, evaluations, promotions, and retention.
- Facilitate and encourage professional development and approve all travel requests within the library.
- Prepare and manage library budgets.
- Select, request approval for, and acquisition new print and electronic books, databases, and resources per collection development policy.
- Oversee maintenance of the library collections (including licensing of databases and electronic resources).
- Technical contact for OCLC, Galileo, TLC (until contract ends), and database vendors; communicate with them if having technical or access issues.
- Responsible for receipt of library donations and letters of acknowledgment to the donors.
- Assist student, faculty, and staff in use of the library collections (including databases and electronic resources).
- Maintain an environment in the library suitable to study and research by making rounds regularly.
- Assist in staffing public services as needed.
- Provide library orientation/ instruction classes for areas assigned as liaison and maintain regular communication with assigned departments.
- Determine Library Liaison assignments.
- Plan and build electronic LibGuides for the departments/programs assigned as liaison.
- Prepare reports of library activities and assessment of its institutional effectiveness.
- Prepare statistical reports both internal and external to the university and special reports, as requested, by the President or Provost.
- Other duties as assigned by the Provost.
