Assistant Teacher

Position Summary
The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher with general supervision and management of the classroom. The Assistant Teacher assists the Lead Teacher with planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and lesson plans in his/her assigned classroom.

Qualifications & Education
? Must be at least 18 years of age.
? Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
? Experience working with children ages birth to five in an early childhood setting is a plus.
? Ability to be covered under the Housing Authority?s fidelity bond.
? Has never been shown by credible evidence (e.g. a court or jury, a department investigation, or other reliable
evidence) to have abused, neglected, sexually assaulted, exploited, or deprived any person or to have subjected
any person to serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly negligent misconduct as evidenced by an oral or
written statement to this effect obtained at the time of application.
? Possession of a valid Driver's License or ID.
? Ability to follow all local, state, and national safety laws and codes.
? Awareness of current issues in children?s services and education.
? Ability to follow all Bright from the Start rules and regulations.
? Ability to undertake all physical requirements involved with the early childhood setting including lifting, bending,
squatting, pushing, pulling, trunk twisting, kneeling, standing, and sitting for durations.
? Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs.
? Must be able to assist others with physical disabilities.
? Ability to work outside without any ill effects.
? Knowledge of child development and childcare techniques.
? Ability to deal effectively with young children, adults, other staff, and the public.
? Ability to accomplish paperwork, such as daily activity reports, lesson plans, and attendance records.
? Demonstrates professional level of written and verbal communication skills.
? Ability to follow oral instructions.
? Ability to establish and to maintain effective working relationships with parents, families, employees, supervisors,
and other staff; demonstrate effective customer relationships.

? Effectively handles emotions, including anger and frustration.

? Employee must complete the following trainings within the first year of employment:
o Health & Safety Orientation Training (within the first 90 days)
o CPR/First Aid training (within the first 90 days)
o 4 hours of disease control, cleanliness, hygiene, injury, or illness training
o 2 hours of mandatory reporting/child abuse training
o New Hire Orientation training (before providing any care)
? Montessori 101
? Other trainings may be required to fulfill the job duties.
? Ten hours of on-going training must be completed each year following the first year of employment.

? Arrive promptly each day.
? Complies with Bright from the Start regulations, Montessori standards, and any other federal, state, or agency
regulations or guidelines.
? Demonstrates initiative, problem solving, productivity, teamwork, communication, and interpersonal relationship
? Acts as a resource for parents regarding issues concerning the children
? Protects confidential and sensitive information.
? Customer and Team Focus ? Establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, parents,
families, staff, and the public.
? Demonstrate professional level of written and verbal communication skills.
? Assist with other duties as directed by the Academy Director.
? Maintain all certifications as required.
? Assist the Lead Teacher in the preparation and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum
including weekly themes and lesson plans, inclusion of theme-related materials, and rotation of activities and
equipment on a regular basis.
? Provide safe, responsive, stimulating environment by actively engaging oneself in daily activities and routines.
? Assist the Lead Teacher in the completion of daily paperwork, including but not limited to incident reports,
attendance records, and diaper changing logs (if applicable).
? Utilize the Montessori philosophy and curriculum in the classroom.
? Comply with the criminal records and comprehensive background check(s).

$10.00 per hour.
