Supercharging Your Community Through Leadership with Special Guest Dr. Matt Bishop

Community leadership programs are an important piece of the economic development puzzle. That is, communities that invest in strong leadership programs put themselves at a competitive advantage when it comes to attracting jobs and investment. Especially when those that participate in the programs stay involved in their community. Matt Bishop, director of the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development at the University of Georgia, will share his insights on the importance of developing leaders in communities as well as new trends and innovations in community leadership development.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Matt Bishop serves as the director of the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development at the University of Georgia. In this role, he is responsible for the overall strategic direction and programmatic operations of the Institute in fulfillment of its mission to strengthen communities, organizations and individuals through leadership development, education and training. He leads a team of 35 faculty, staff and students in designing and delivering a variety of leadership programs that focus on community, nonprofit and youth audiences. In addition, Dr. Bishop served as Chair of Leadership Georgia in 2019, and has been recognized by Georgia Trend magazine as one of Georgia’s 40 Under 40, and by his alma mater, Presbyterian College, with the 2013 Young Alumnus of the Year Award. His outstanding career at UGA has earned him the Walter B. Hill Award for Distinguished Achievement in Public Service and Outreach. Matt attended Presbyterian College where he majored in political science. He also holds a Master of Public Administration and Ph.D. in Public Administration and Policy from the University of Georgia.
